Aiden Grimshaw: X-Factor 2010

"Now that's what I call a pop star!" were Simon Cowells well chosen words after hearing Aiden Grimshaw sing "Gold Digger" by Kanye West at his first audition in Manchester. He went straight through to bootcamp where he sang the David Gray song "This Year's Love".

At the judges house he was watched over by the boys mentor, Danni Minogue, as he sang "Cannonball" by Damien Rice and successfully clinched a spot in the final 12 (okay so that changed to the final 16 after the wildcards were introduced!) to appear in the live X-Factor shows.

Aiden is 18 years old and a student at the Michael Hall Theatre School in Blackpool. Unfortunately having been one of the favourites to win the competition Aiden found himself in the bottom two in week 6 and was eliminated!

Matt Cardle adds his support towards Aiden getting a record deal.

28/12/2010 - We knew they were friends during Aiden's time on the X-factor and that friendship looks to be continuing as Matt, the eventual winner, has backed Aiden to secure a recording contract. Matt wrote on his official twitter last night "Just finished twickenham. . Was amazing ! Thank you so much . PS. Get aiden signed !!! Aiden PS. . you know what I did ;) . . Love ya bro XX"

The morning after... did anyone see that coming?

15/11/2010 - Well we've had a night's sleep to get used to the idea that Aiden is no longer in the X-Factor but it still hurts!

Unbelievably, Katie has now survived being in the bottom two for the fourth time!

Thank you all for your comments and messages of support and apologies if it takes a while to get them them updated on the site but there have been hundreds and hundreds so we are trying to just put the best one's up just for now.

From the King of Pop to the Prince, Aiden sings "Nothing Compares 2 U"

06/11/2010 - Best known for the version by Sinéad O'Connor, Aiden Grimshaw took on Prince's fantastic "Nothing Compares 2 U" on the American Anthems show tonight.

Afterwards Cheryl Cole seemed to backtrack a little on some of her previous weeks comments and said that he's "actually a great singer", Simon thought that it was "absolutely brilliant" and Louis said he thought he was the "perfect popstar... intense is good!"

It's Halloween night on the X-Factor and Aiden slows down "Thriller"

30/10/2010 - It was a Halloween themed X-Factor show tonight and Aiden had promised us a "massive" song and they don't get much bigger then Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Performed at a far slower pace than the original the judges were unconvinced as to whether Aiden had pulled this one off or not. Judge for yourself and watch the video here.

Sorry Cheryl but there's another "intense" performance coming!

27/10/2010 - Aiden revealed today on his official blog at how excited he is about his song for week 4, he reckons it's one of the most massive songs ever. He says "it might be another intense one, so Cheryl might not be happy".

Ooh we can't wait! he also hinted he might bust a move or two at the end- D.A.N.C.E. Mr Grimshaw! We're thinking Michael Jackson's "Thriller" maybe?

"You're back in the game" Simon tells Aiden after tonight's performance

23/10/2010 - After the disappointment of last weeks show, Aiden hit straight back this week with a fantastic cover of "Diamonds Are Forever". Originally a Shirley Bassey song, this was done more in the style of the Arctic Monkey's version.

Simon thought he had bounced back to where he was before last week and that he was back in the game, Danni agreed "You are back in the race this week" and Louis thought he was the perfect popstar. Cheryl wasn't too sure if she could watch a full gigs worth of songs with this level of intensity but that's just Cheryl we guess... watch the video here

23/10/2010 - so the rumour for Aidens song choice tonight is "Diamonds Are Forever" originaly sung by Shirley Bassey for the James Bond film, we'll see tonight if our sources are correct.

It's Guilty Pleasures week this week and to get in the mood Aiden was asked- What is your favourite musical Guilty Pleasure? to which he answered "Club Tropicana" (by Wham for all you youngsters out there), he likes to listen to it whenever he's driving and it makes him feel cheesy and happy to be cheesy!

Aiden is back with Ex, is dating a dancer and has a crush on Frankie

21/10/2010 - Well it's been a busy week for Aiden Grimshaw on the love life scene (or the papers would have us believe!). According to the Sunday Mirror on the 17th he was back with his ex-girlfriend, Lara Hendrickse. But wait...by Tuesday 19th he had already moved on (according to The Mirror) and was now dating a backing dancer from the X-Factor, Caoife Coleman.

By Thursday news was emanating that he had a crush on the Saturdays singer, Frankie Sandford! Busy boy, admittedly the crush thing was a question asked on the official X-Factor site and he answered that he'd met her on Saturday and "she was hot stuff, so I'll say Frankie from The Saturdays." Fair enough, that bit probably is true and we defy anyone that says she ain't cute!

Not sure if we believe any of the dating nonsense that comes out of the papers but it's still funny to see how they can make stories out of nothing, roll on Saturday night!

Not the best of nights for Aiden as he chooses a tough song

16/10/2010 - Aiden sang John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" and to be honest he wasn't best pleased with his performance. Louis seemed to be the only judge to sing his praises saying that it was better than last week and how he'd thought to himself that he (Aiden) is the perfect popstar. But from there the other judges were less impressed and Simon probably summed it up when he said that Aidens face said it all as he clearly wasn't happy with it- you know what to do, get voting for our boy so he can prove himself next week!

Aiden is safe but it's the end of road for Nicolo and F.Y.D

10/10/2010 - oooh it's a new format as TWO acts leave the first show! You'll be pleased to know that Aiden Grimshaw is safely through to next weeks show (was there any doubt) but the unfortunate accolade of first out went to Nicolo Festa as he received the fewest votes and so was automatically eliminated. Second out was decided by the judges on the next bottom two acts who were F.Y.D and Katie Waissel. I think most expected Katie to go (including Katie) but surprisingly it was Louis who saved her and F.Y.D were sent packing.

It's a Mad World as Aiden shines and four wildcards are revealed

09/10/2010 - And we hit the live shows running! Not only did Aiden put in a fantastic version of Gary Jules' "Mad World" but we also found out that four wildcards have been entered (or should that be re-entered?) into the competition. The lucky four are Paije Richardson, Wagner Caririlo, Treyc Cohen and Diva Fever. Watch the video here of Mad World- Grimshaw style!

03/10/2010 - Danni Minogue has chosen our man, Aiden, to be one of her final 3 in the live shows. Also through are Matt Cardle and Nicolo Festa.

In the girls group, Cheryl chose Cher Lloyd, Katie Waissel and Rebecca Ferguson. Louis, who has the over 28s chose Storm Lee, John Adeleye and Mary Byrne and finally Simon chose 1 Direction, Belle Amie and F.Y.D for the groups. Click here to see Aidens reaction as he finds out he has been chosen.

02/10/2010 - Danni is joined by Natalie Imbruglia as she makes the tough decision of who to take to the live shows and who to axe. Aiden sings a great version of "Cannonball" by Damien Rice as he attemps to persuade Danni he should be in her final three. Bootcamp for Aiden but Brian's not too happy...

26/09/2010 - We're off to bootcamp and although Aiden impressed all the judges at his first audition, it seems as though Brian Friedman (Creative director) has some fears about how he appears on stage. Will the judges see past this and put him through to the judges house? 18/09/2010 - Singing his own version of the classic Kanye West song "Gold Digger", Aiden managed to pretty much silence the judges until he had finished, whereupon Simon Cowell (hard man to receive any praise from at the best of times!) announced "Now that's what I call a pop star!".
